Can anybody explain (in detail) how points are calculated in the german point
system? Is there a precise formula?

In switzerland we are using the same point system, also known under the
name of LEN Points Table, to calculate the points of each event at our
team championships. After the olympic games a new table is calculated
based on the WRs after the game. Therefore we are using now the WRs, as
they were after Barcelona. The formula is:

        (WR/time)^3 * 1000

  WR = World Record in seconds
time = time to convert in seconds

Examples: 200m ***   WR = 2:10.16 -> 130.16
                      time = 2:27.87 -> 147.87

                    points = 682

          100m Fly      WR = 52.84  (we are still calculating with the WR of P.
Morales)
                      time = 58.20

                    points = 748

I wrote some procedures for my HP-48 pocket calculater to convert times
to points and vice-versa. If somebody is interested -> mail me:
