workout decoder ring

I'm having trouble figuring out workouts, for example in fitness swimmer it
says "9x200", and then says something about no more than 10 sec rest between
the 50's.  This does not make sense. Shouldn't the rest be between the 200's?,
or else why isn't it "36x50"?

If you post the whole description for the set then maybe we can help.
It is possible that they did mean 10 seconds between the 200's and not
50's.

The other possibility is that this was meant to be a "broken" swim
where you take 10 seconds rest at each 50 and then get a total time for
the whole 200 minus the 30 seconds rest you would have taken between
the 50's.  Done this way you can do the set at race pace.  (I wouldn't
think that they would have 9 200's though.)

It's the "Ice Breaker" workout in the (current) Jan-Feb 2000 issue of Fitness
Swimmer.

I just looked at the above workout (Ice Breaker).  My guess is that there is
a typo on the Interval/Rest column for the set of 9x200s. It should read
rest between 200s, not 50s.
