Arctic Cat - Not associated with cats at all.

I realize that most cat people like to use the stealthy
cat, as there symbol or mascot.  But in reality Edgar
He*** the founder of Arctic and Polaris.  Named the
Snowmobile line as (Arctic) from the connotation of north ,
and (Cat) a word shortened from the bug the caterpillar
meaning it could crawl over, around and across all types of
terrain.  And this is the truth !  Now don't feel bad guys
ego's weren't as big back then in the 50's as they are now..

So just remember when you pull up to the next bar or gas
station the satisfaction you'll have from everyone knowing
your riding a arctic caterpillar.  Wow sounds good!

And did you know that the original name for a Ski-Doo was Ski Dog which came about because the snowmachine was a replacement for sled dogs.
So, the next time you pull up to a pit stop just remember that you're riding a yellow-bellied dog.
Have a nice day ;-)

Yamaha is pretty boring, I believe it's the name of the guy who started
the company in Japan just after WWII.  IIRC, he developed an engine.
Just a wild guess, but Polaris might have come from astrology.  At least
it would fit, cuz most of those Polaris guy's are way out there.

I believe Polaris is the name of the North Star. Whether that was the reason
the company adopted the name, I don't know.

POLARIS comes from name for the North Star (and I figure they feel they're
pretty far North).
