:I've got a 1979 arctic cat pantera which is in mint shape.
:I can't afford a newer snowmobile, but would like a little more grunt.
:It has a 500 fancooled engine in it, and I was radared at 82mph last
:winter. It has single carb, sigle pipe.
:Could anyone suggest how I could improve on the speed or handeling of
:this machine at a minimum cost.

82mph out of a 79 ???? Leave it alone!

82 on a '79?  I don't think that you need to do a thing with it!!!!!!  I
own a 1980 Artic Cat Pantera and I was very happy doing 75 accross the
lake last year with it! (I also was praying that I wouldn't fall off
either!)

I own a 77 free air 500cc Pantera, also in mint condition. It has twin
32
mm carbs and is rated at 55 H.P. I believe your machine has a single 34
mm carb and is rated at 49 H.P. You may want to increase your H.P by
going with a double carb set-up. You would likely have to change your
weights in the drive clutch as well.

Good luck! Let me know how yor make out.
