We bought a '96 XCR 600 SP brand new from the dealer in late '96 and have had
nothing but problems.  This motor has seized up four times and been rebuilt
five
by two different dealers. We only have 700 miles on the sled because its been
in the shop most of its life.  Nobody can fix the problem or will tell us whats
wrong.
We have heard that they had problems with this engine.  Can anybody please tell

us or know of somebody who has information on this specific Fugi engine?

I have one of these sleds. It is true that the factory settings were way off.
-main jet down SIX sizes
-needle jet to a p-8 (SIX sizes)
-they never did get a good clutch spec.
I have never heard of a sled being so far out of calibration from the factory.BUT,
what this did for polaris is make a reliable sled. Most people cant blow those
motors.
I got sick of all the updates and went for hot-to-go's 800 big bore.150+hp
reliable.
And I have 6000mi on the motor. I think you have something else wrong maybe in
your carbs. They do have a lean spot in the midrange at half throttle. good luck
get the "led" out to reply

I remember an XCR-6 coming through our dealer with similar multiple crank
failures, we finally came to the conclusion that the cases were not properly
line bored, stressing the crank into a pre-mature failure. Have your cases
checked for trueness.Good luck.

96 XCR 600 SP Dead again. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by billwil » Fri, 19 Feb 1999 04:00:00

I had one of these sleds as did my brother.  I rode 3000 miles in three
years never had a problem.  My brother had his for two and burned the center
cylinder twice on it.  He dumped it and has since heard the new owner had it
in for a new crank.  I liked mine,  but it needed clutching and carb changes
to work decent.  My advice is to count your losses and dump the sled!
