Heres how I turned my Ultra into a 116 MPH Radar Sled, while trail riding 2000 Miles
with no problems. The oply sled in its class that beat me was another Ultra with a
rider who was maybe 140 lbs lighter than me.
1 You must face the clutches on a lathe mine were so far from concentric that they took
4 cuts to true them, both the Primary and the Secondary. Also make sure that the belt
is coming all the way to the top of the primary when at full throttle. We had to take
.080 of the front faces to get my belt to the top. This is easy to check with black
magic marker, run a line up the side of your clutch and see if it disapears after
running full throttle.
Also all I ran last year was Polaris 045 Belts.
2. Get your Tach calibrated. I found that my tach was off by 600 RPM so in reality my
engine would not spin at 8600 as it should have.
3 Add the extra idler wheel kit.
4 I also added an old Storm thermistat which was like night and day. Also most Ultras
that I new of that Blew up did so on the cold side. do to cold seizures. The thermostat
gave me consistant performance on both lakes and trails.
5 Pull the angle out of the front of your suspension to get easier track roll. I also
added 144 Woody's push thru's
6 Half way thru the season i added a set of PSI Modblasters with the jetting as PSI
Spec'd as well as the PSI needles. Instantanious Crotch Rocket. This sled is a real
sleaper that is waiting to Wake up.
With all I did I never had a problem all year touch wood, but I also run only synthetic
oil ( Amsoil) nothing else.
I also met a guy that is a Prof of Polaris Perf tuning last year. He can be now found
at Cycle World in Mississauga Ont. He used to own as small shop in Burlington. Try him
