hey i have a 86 cougar it runs good finally put on 300 miles so far not
because of the sled but the lack of snow,  Only problem wont idle if i let
go of the throttle if i hold it just the slightest it will idle at 22oo fine
let go of the thottle and boom stales right out even after riding for and
hour... setting some where just cant figure it out,

It's the throttle safety switch.  Try tightening the throttle cable.  If
there is zero tension on the throttle when it is released, then the throttle
switch will kill the enigne, thinking that either the carb or the cable has
frozen open.

Look carefully at the throttle assembly, and you will see two small switch
plungers.  You can unplug the safety switch momentarily for testing, but
don't ride that way.

Its a 1986 cougar no electric on the carbs, i dont think had any safty stuff
on them back then

AC has had throttle safety switches all the way back to 1974, but not on the
carbs until mid-1990's.

do you mean the kill switch theres not a thing plugged into it at all

is there something else in there i am missing i will look at that a little
harder  thanks for all the ideas i am new to this so i just order the
maintance book on it
