I've outgrown my beginner sled (1977 Ski-Doo Olympic 300 twin) and am
looking for something ALOT bigger so...

I'm looking at buying a 1993 Thundercat 900 and was wondering what the
opinions are out there.

I'm curious as to;
-price I should expect
-common problems with this machine
-things to look for when looking it over
-how fast will it go

Thanks...

Did you ever hear the term
"open up a can of whoop ass" ?
Well thats what the T-Cat is, times three. 160+hp, power you wont
believe until you wack the loud lever for the first time. Hang on, your
in for one wild ride.

  Price on a 93 T-Cat should be around $2500-$3500 depending on it`s
overalll condition. I`m SURE it`s NEVER been raced. ;-)

Possible problems? Well I kow I don`t need to tell you this, but thing
has only one thing in it`s list of tricks. WIN!!! The first one across
the lake each and every time. As for trail riding, well thats not too
pretty. I owned a 95 T-Cat and loved it until I tried to trail ride it.
The turns were so so but the bumps were brutal. Not a trail monster and
it`s no ZR, NOT by a long shot.

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the stator,
they did have a few that had bad charge (voltage) coils. A wire would
break on the iside of the coil, $480 for a new one, $125.00 to get it
rebuilt.
I`m sure a hypersled of a 93 vintage will need a track if it hasn`t
already gotten a few in it`s life already. However the 93 T-Cat had the
best track to date from Cat, they lasted longer than any other stock
track that I can think of.

Now for a real important messsage. No joke. This T-Cat you want is
without a doubt one of the fastest hypersled out. It WILL get you in
trouble faster than most. Corners come up faster than you`d like and
even though the Wilwood brake it one of the best binders out it wont do
a thing if you dont respect the sled and the power. BE CAREFUL!!! Watch
out for other sledders too. Your not the only sled out there and I`m
sure you dont want to ruin your trip or anyone elses for that matter. A
monkey can drive fast, but only someone with common sense can ride
smart. Ride with others in mind at all times.
(Soap box dismount. double backflip.)  ;-)

The 93 T-Cat has the salmon colored decals and most people hated the
looks of them, well I`ll tell you, the 93 T-Cat is the faster of ANY of
the 900cc T-Cats out from 93 to 97.

The 900 motor is very dependable and I know of a few with well over
10,000 miles on them, mine was one of them. I know of a guy (a friend of
mine) that sold  a 94 T-Cat with almost 20,000 miles on it and not a
problem with the motor what so ever.
At best I got 17+ mpg at worst I could get as low as 10-11. This 900
motor is truely awesome.

Hope this helps

anything I can for you.

Thats a heck of a jump in sleds there. I would also check insurance prices. I
ride mostly in the woods and don't think I would want to ride a t-cat all day
long as they are heavy (as am I). If your lake running--Have fun !!!

Hi jeff, wise reply to mine, and also to the guy buying one, that is what I was
trying to say in a sarcastic kind of way. I have been riding since 1977 (34 yrs
old) so I do like to flip the loud lever on occassion. I ride about 95% of the
time in the woods so I don't need a t-cat, but man I do love them. When my wife
and I argue I always threaten to get a t-cat. I was riding a 97zr580 until it
kept blowing up this year, I have currently bought a 99 zrt600 carryover
(green). Kevin

Well... I decided to offer the guy $3000.00 for it. If he takes it, I'll get
it. If not, then I'll look some more. (I've got all summer!) It's clean and
ran last season. I talked to someone who rode it last season who wouldn't
bullsh*t me and they said it runs great!

Thanks for the replies!

Well I'm buying the '93 AC T-Cat for $3000.00 (That's Canadian BTW)
It only has 3895 Km on it. (about 2000 miles) They guy hardly rode it and
it's still brand new everywhere. He put about 100 miles on it last season.

Now to buy a electric visor helmet (w/ plug I'll have to install for it), a
new suit to match the T-Cat, and lots of fuel... ;-)  Oh... and insurance
and my trail permit then BRING ON WINTER!!!

I'll post a picture of it when I can. (Not for a while...)

Thanks for your help!
