Help needed on Arctic Cat

I have a buddy that rides a 2001 AC 500 ZR.  when he is hitting the mouguls
real hard getting alot of up and down air time, the sled will occasionally
cut out and die, similar to it not getting a gas.  gas tank will have ample
amout of gas,.

anyone else experience this? solutions?

thanks
Mike

Throttle safety switch maybe...   there are different spacers you can get
that solve the problem.

Also what kind of carbs are on it, are they the VM roundslide or TM
flatslide?  If they are VM you'll see a grey cable coming from each carb to
a harness... disconnect it and try again, sometimes its those sensors.

I have forwarded your comments to him.  This is one of the first time he has
ridden like this.  we do alot of hard flat ruining, river beds, occasional
jumps. He is getting ready to try out snocross racing.

thanks
mike

With the sled idling have him push straight up or down on the throttle.  If
the safety switch is the culprit it'll interrupt the spark and cause the
engine to cut out as you describe.  I've been riding my sled for 2 years
with the switch unplugged and know of several guys who've experienced the
same problem.  I first noticed it in hard corners when I'd rotate my hand to
get back on the gas, all of a sudden the motor would cut out.  The local
dealer gave me the plastic spacers which were suppose to fix the problem and
they did for a while and then it started up again.  The best fix is a new
throttle block, if that's the problem.

We have tried these suggestions and the thing still cuts out.. Would a
Holtzman tempa flow have much effect on this?  This is the only modification
that he has made in this area.

thanks everyone

I know of  a situation where the ignition wire on a Polaris Storm was not
properly secured and would occasionally contact the muffler and cut the engine
out. This often occurred when riding rough trails, we wire tied the ignition
wire, problem solved, I hope your problem is as simple as that one.

well after a email to Holtzman and some more testing last night, we have
determined that it must be the Holtzman.  We disconected the tempa flow and
ran up and down the drifts 5 or 6 times and all went well, hooked the tempa
flow back up and ran a few more times, and started to have the same problem.
Thing would not idle and there was gas in the lines for the tempa flow.

I want to thank everyone for their posts, we looked at all options, and this
is what we found to work.
