Modifying Exhaust on 96 XCR SP motor

Post by Wayne Levenselle » Sun, 18 Nov 2001 03:27:42

I'm puting a 96 XCR 600 SP motor into a 94 XLT SKS.... the only problem I'm
seeing is the new exhaust.  Their hurken big.... my hood lays on top of the
pipes and sticks up off the hinges by over 4 inches.

Two questions I have:
Does a XCR chassis and hood have more depth than a XLT chassis and hood?
What would happen to the 600 SP motor if I put on smaller triple SLP pipes
from the XLT motor (which would fit if I rotate a XLT exhaust manifold
*** for the mag cylinder)?

be cool,
Wayne

Wayne, I put one of these engines in a 96 xcr chassis.  It was an HTG 800
big bore so I used big bore triple pipes from an ultra which BTW came with
this same bottom end.  I'm sure you could use the same pipes, which I would
be happy to sell for $300 + shipping.  I also still have the complete engine
if anyone is interested.  It is a very, very reliable 172 hp with the pipes.
I have the "aggressive" pipes too.  The big bore pipes will work on your
stock 600 engine as the stock pipes where also too "big" for it.  Expect
around 130 h.p. with them, not nearly as fun!  If you have any questions
about the mod, let me know.  Any questions about the ultra/XCRsp big bores,

Jim
