Why kill files don't work (about Ann Lewis)

Post by Norman Ree » Mon, 12 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I have not seen a posting by Ann Lewis in a long time BECAUSE I have a
killfile (filter in Internet Explorer) that blocks anything from her.  I set
up the killfile after her IP did not respond to my (and others') requests to
block Ann Lewis from this newsgroup.

However, Ann Lewis will not go away for me because other posters reply to
her messages.  Simply by not responding to Ann Lewis, she would go away, at
least electronically.

If you cannot avoid the urge to comment on or to Ann Lewis, then please put
her name in the subject line.  Besides rejecting any messages from Ann Lewis
or Anjule, my browser also denies any postings containing "Ann" and "Lewis"
or "Anjule" in the subject.  I would be very grateful.

Sarcasm: Oh, thanks. Guess you didn't read the thread about someone
impersonating me on message boards, then. :-)

Serious: Maybe you should add AJL, since that's what she goes by now, and those
initials could be used. Initials don't break netiquette by putting user names
in the subject line. We don't want to instill bad habits, now, do we?

Peg, bemused, wishing *she* had a kill file.

Any request to cancel this post is a forgery.

Well, does the browser use Boolean logic? If someone were to put "'Ann'
AND 'Lewis'" into its killfile, would it then only kill articles posted
with both names, and not just one or the other?
