I'm sure that Kurt agrees that the Brave Young Widow uses her hands in
some very satisfying ways ... and I'm not referring to when she is on
the ice either!  <eg>

Let's just hope that she doesn't soak up what went on between Kurt and
the Brave Young Widow like a sponge ... unless it's a contraceptive
sponge.  <giggle>

SOI - Tonight's Show

Well I have to say all in all the show was better than I was expecting---which
wasn't much because I feared with the new cast and missing old familiar faces
(you have to understand I'm still mourning the loss of Peter and Kitty) it
would be lacking something.

I think it started off rather slow but it got better as the show went on.  I
think the group numbers are not as good as past shows and for these reasons:

Too many new faces...it is going to take time to build up the chemistry.

I think it is time for  a new choreographer.  My favorite group # was the
clowns and that was done by Dean.  I think Bezic is getting old and it's time
for some new ***.--Perhaps with all the new faces it's time for some new
group choreography.

I loved the number with Bechke & Petrov, Katia and Illia--loved the
skating--though I wished they'd picked another song-for obvious reasons
and-that one just seemed to dark. I wanted to slap Ilia and say "Katia's too
old for  you, Hon" :-)  But great to see her doing pairs again.

Tara did very well in the clown number.  She was very cute.  I thought Jumpin
jack or whatever that first number was too mature for her and she did not look
comfortable doing the "*** hip grinding" thing.  And she should not be
comfortable doing that at 16 and the choreographers should know better.  Wished
they had shown her Second Element because I really like that number.  I'm sure
NBC will show it.  Hopefully we will get to see Meno and Sand and Cousins next
week as well.

Finally Kristi has abandoned the sexpot thing and gone back to classical
skating--wonderful.  I especially liked her second number, which not surprising
to me, was done by Siebert, not Bezic.

Lu Chen -- YO Sandra!  Lulu is *not* Kristi--please stop trying to turn her
into Kristi!

Scott--yea okay so he's slowing down--but he's entitled!  Second number was
vintage Scott!  I'd heard he was doing a number his mother liked,  for some
reason I expected it to be a schmaltzy emotional number--but this was perfect
for him.  Oh and I liked One Week, but I still think Kurt should have kept the
snake.  Perhaps Scott is watchingit for him :-)

I think what else the group numbers were missing was a closing theme to one
group--maybe next  year they can do Fleetwood Mac.

But it will never be the same without Scott

Re Joelle's comment: if you don't want to see SOI make any references to
rumors, don't ask them to skate to Fleetwood Mac...

Yes!  I swear, as I watched, I kept seeing Kristi do every single move.
It's a cool song, but change the choreography.  Why is it that the first
"stretch" a once-eligible female has to make is into vamp territory?

Meno & Sand didn't get a number -- lose The Cutting Edge and show the
skaters, for goodness sakes!

I was rather impressed with the Roca & Sur number; Renee had great,
sharp, angry movements.  It's hard to look tense and not _be_ tense.

Tara looked really adorable in the clown number; short 'n' shaggy looks
pretty good on her.  The mirror skating was very well done.  I think
they should let her focus on comedy rather than the blossoming womanhood
thing.  (I still think she should do Cherubino's "Non so piu.")

I'm not happy with a lot of the musical choices.  The quartet, of
course.  Also, "Tryin' to Keep the Customer Satisfied" was a complete
rework with little lyric resemblance to the original (which was kind of
downtrodden).  I found it distracting, trying to remember the original
words.  It was also distracting to see Kristi skate to spoken word.  It
has to do with speech being clearer than sung lyrics, usually; sort of
like the greater clarity of the words tries to drag the choreography
into being more literal in interpretation.

I think it's interesting how Bechke & Petrov are hugely popular even
though they mostly stick to classical music.  In a way, without the
distraction of modern (easily recognizable) music, you can pay more
attention to the skating, which is always so inventive.

All in all, not as entertaining as some previous shows, although the
clown number is definitely a high point.

Yes, I thought this too.  Maybe Tara should consider a haircut?
Neither the long-and-loose or the pulled-into-a-bun look suits her
particularly well.

I didn't find the words distracting, maybe because I wasn't really
listening to them! I could hear the voice and the cadence, but didn't
pay attention to the words.  Actually I liked this poetry number of
Kristi's better than the Tchaikovsky number.  Does anyone know who
choreographed the Tchaikovsky? (I know Michael Siebert did the poetry
one.)

Yes, but then she probably would be accused of copying Michelle.  :-)

Tara usually soaks up skating knowledge from those around her like a
sponge, so I shouldn't see why not.

Be interesting to see what Tara's overall presentation, arm usage, etc.
looks like come one or two seasons from now... you can already spot more
differences between this year's and last year's.

The same contraceptive sponge you should have used, right?

If y'all are going to bother replying to AJL, could you indicate that in
the header so I can just skip over it, like I do her original posts?
