Well, this is too bad. She was one of the more enthusiastic skaters last
year, and whatever happened to make her not love the sport must have been
pretty bad. I hope it was not the pressures of being anointed as "the next
big thing" that caused these problems.

Damn! I had a feeling this would be the final outcome, but I wanted to be
wrong. Damn, damn, damn!

Meanwhile -- and someone will slam me for even bringing this up, but I don't
care -- I wonder what happened to all our suggestions about how to prevent this
kind of thing from happening in the future. I tried to navigate that horribly
user-unfriendly USFSA web site to find a place to channel some of them, but it
clearly wasn't designed to provide access to real people with questions and
concerns. (And I have some experience with web site design, so it wasn't that
I didn't know how to navigate a web site.)

Such sad news. I really liked this team and was looking forward
to watching them develop over the years. Now I know it ain't

Actually, it is Justin, not Jamie, who is quoted in the article as
having lost his love for the sport. In fact, if I was reading the
article correctly, Jamie is not quoted at all.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Justin with a new partner for next
season. As for Jamie, I truly hope she's well and that she finds her
way back to the sport or to whatever will make her happy in life.

Same here. I hope they both come back, but if only one does, I would expect it
to be him.

Now, oh knowledgeable ones, can anyone tell me which of them was the stronger
partner? If either was? What would you expect if either of them came back
with other partners?

Actually, I would expect it to be her to come back. I don't know the state of
male dance partner availability right now, but she seemed to be a very talented
skater. I am disappointed in their split, but maybe they can find some
happiness elsewhere.

I don't really understand why everyone is assuming it is Jamie who is
having the problems in the partnership. In fact, in the Freep it
says, "Shpilband said he will try to find a new partner for Silverstein
after nationals. Pekarek and his coaches will decide early next year
when he will return to skating." So, Jamie apparently plans to
continue skating. Justin's skating future is the one that is unclear.

Thanks for the link, Amy. It sounds like he wants a break, not an ending,
though. And this is the first I've read about her doing anything post-split.
I'm still heartbroken.

I, for one, was not assuming that it was Jamie or Justin that was
having problems in the partnership. My feeling has always been that
one or both of them was/were having personal problems unrelated to
skating or their partnership. This was how the pair initially
expressed their situation (via their first press release on the
subject) and why they were not participating in the Grand Prix Series.

In time, I suppose, we will learn more about the reason for the split.
For now, I'll assume it was perfectly mutual.
