HELP: Dmitriev and Mishkutenok song

Post by Cmcart » Wed, 11 Mar 1998 04:00:00

Hi,
I'm trying to locate the music played during Dmitriev and Mishkutenok's
exhibition number. It sounded like the commentator said the name was "The Sad
Waltz" but I can't locate it. Does anyone know the composer or better yet the
album?

Thanks for any help.

I was watching my old Mishkutienok & Dimitriev compilation tape and
something that I think is rather interesting is the huge contrast between
their competition musical selections and exhibition - for competition they
use the most classic figure skating selections in teh book - Liebestraum,
the 16th (I think) variation from Rachmaninoff 'Variation on a Theme by
Paganini' which has been used by about a thousand skaters, Rachmaninoff
Piano Concerto  - about as out of the ordinary as it gets is Handel! Don
Quixote for the short. Then for exhibition, they use Yma Sumac, Gipsy
Kings, a Frank Sinatra tune, the Sad Waltz, which is seems like a more
esoteric piece of classical music. One reason I'd like to see
Kazkova/Dimitirev stay in for one final season is to see them do something
really more inthe spirit of 'Sad Waltz' for their long - something that is
still classical and true to them, but more atypical than the typical lush
romantic classical music used by most skaters when they do classical
music.

In case it wasn't clear - I was considering the two dimitriev pairs as a
continuum (I know I'm spelling that wrong!), which is why I mention stuff
used by both pairs!
