1999 NATIONALS - I WAS RIPPED OFF !!!!

Is anyone else furious at the Salt Lake orgainizing
committee!!  How dare they send out letters in December
announcing sight line problems after selling tickets for a
year.  When I called for a refund, the cowards wouldn't even
answer the phone - a voicemail message saying they'd send
refunds when they got around to it in January!
I lost $258 in non-refundable airfare!!!!!

Oh.. I am disappointed enough knowing that I paid a great deal of money for
tickets for nationals; however, I am still going.

I do think, however, they should have investigated the situation at the Delta
Center prior to making such a huge commitment to host such a prestigious
skating event.

In defense of the person working on Nationals tickets though - she is only
there certain days during the week, and in light of this recent "headache", I
am sure that she has been inundated with telephone calls and faxes, not to
mention all of the letters, etc., so I believe that she is sincere in stating
that they will respond to you when they return.

Anyway, it could be much worse - tickets for the 2001 Boston Nationals (VIP
level) are over $600... ouch!

So they have NOT yet done the remodelling-to-improve-sightlines
promised for 2002 Olys?I guess this does not count as the "pre-Olympic
event",then.

C'mon, folks.  It's Christmastime.  Where is the charity in your
hearts?
     Let's review:
The SLC organizers had to front a lot of $$$ to piece off the IOC
folks, as is customary in these circumstances.  How do you expect the locals
to replace the money they used for the bribes?  If they fix the venue, or
move it, it will cost even more money.
It has had a benificent side-efffect, of course.  Big Sam has announced
a restructuring will take place, and those numerous IOC folks, who have been
sucking at the bidding cities' teats for so long, will no longer get their
rice bowls filled.
Under the rubric of "cleaning up the bidding process," Sam says it will
in future be handled by an executive committee only.  Which is a good move,
in that instead of having to split the lolly with so many Badgers, the loot
will be distributed to just a select few...thus getting rid of those agents
who previously shared the vigourish.
And now, bidding cities will face no confusion...or claims of
influence...and will know precisely who has to be paid off.
     Much tidier.

Happy Holidays, and
Cheers.

Just to clarify - I wasn't the original poster on this comment - I just added
the comments regarding how only one person seems to be handling the ticketing,
etc. for this.

Does anybody know how bad it's *really* going to be?

From most of the competitions I've attended, there is usually a spot on the
ice that you cannot see (unless you are "behind the goal posts").

The only time I ever really could see nothing was at Skating Romance 3, where
all the seats were level--behing one another and not raised--and slightly below
ice level.

It's not going to be that bad, is it?

Poddy is probably right -- the block of seats reserved for skaters and
their parents with credentials is probably going to be somewhere on
the upper level.  It usually is.
