Okay,

Normally I don't post to this group unless Tonya Harding does something
loony. Which is the case in this regard. I got an email from Carole
Halper that she had read on Skatefans ML that a "name" skater had gotten
in touch with her to be her coach, a skater that was a dead bang shot to
be in the running for the Nationals competition in 2000. Now Carole
doesn't like Harding at all. Not one itty bit. In fact, I sometimes
threaten to pay to move Tonya to Minneapolis just to get her goat. But
seriously, this story indicated that Harding was "thrilled" at the
prospect of getting some "recognition". Apparently this skater wants
access to some of Tonya's tricks.

Now the sight of Harding coaching this protege at Nationals fills me
with glee. There she'd stand at the rinkside, arms folded, with a face
like a fist. I can see it now: she'd have a bottle of Black Jack at one
side with a lit Cohiba stuck in one side of her mouth, a la the Miami
Dolphins' color analyst, Jim Mandich (formerly a Phish tight end). The
"Kiss and Cry" section would be up for renaming.

And I haven't even spoken of the S&M Dominatrix getup her skater would
compete in.

Now please, if there is a merciful and living God with a sense of humor,
this MUST be true. If justice be poetic, let this one fine thing come to
pass. To those of us who just can't help but love a good howl, let the
Good Lord help this along. Don King, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Besides, think of the ratings!

Be Seeing You,

Chris

David Forberg is the source. You be the judge.

Great story aside, wouldn't TH need coaching credentials of some kind in order
to do this? Would the USFSA ban extend to coaching?

Unsure....

No. The coaching relationship is strictly one-to-one. Some rinks *may*
require USFSA or PSA credentials in order to coach on their ice, but there
is no hard rule about this (that I'm aware of.)

It would extend to being the "coach of record,"  part of which means we
won't have to worry about seeing her in the K&C.

    Ummmm, ***ia.........
It would seem likely that the "Nationals" referred to would be US Nats.

Cheers.

I don't recall that the original post on the skatefans list(which is
what I was thinking of and not the second hand message posted here)
mentioned any nationals. Also, not all "nationals" are US nationals.

Any speculation on who's this name skater is?  Brittany Mecon maybe?  Her
jumps are similar to Tonya's.

I don't care how over the top this is. This could be the start of something
extremely funny. Matter of fact, I can see Morry Stillwell rolling in the
aisles right now. Matter of fact, there's Trudi Marrapodi weeping with
laughter and reaching for her Brian Orser crying towel.

And believe me, figure skating needs its Joker in the deck, Tonya Harding. It
always has. Comic relief is hard to come by.

Besides, what's her alternative? Dealing blackjack at Oregon Indian ***?
Sheesh, people! Everyone's gotta make a living somehow.

With all due respect, Peg, I wouldn't know Forberg from the previously
mentioned Jim Mandich.  How and ever, I'm not prepared to say
"Fuhgettaboutit!" quite just yet, as I have no experience with the below
mentioned gentleman. Have been occupying my time fighting off the New York
Jets' trolls who raid the Phins newsgroup, knuckles dragging as they go.

BTW, can you confirm something else that Halper passed my way? Apparently,
Nicole Bobek, whose name surfaces prominently in the Harding rumor mill on
Skatefans, is now training in Sarasota, Florida. This happens to be the home
of my cousin, Jack Getz, and I'm planning on going over there in October to
see him. Thus, the chances of my getting a Nicole autograph improve somewhat
if I know what rink she trains at. Any help in this regard?

Amen, Brittney jumps so much like Tonya . Geat triples . The problem is ABC
doesn't show hardly any of her programs at the  Nats.Read she brought down the
house .

Yes and no.  In order to be a "coach of record" at a USFSA competition,
and to receive rinkside credentials, you must be a USFSA member.  Harding
could never be the "coach of record", and would not be given competition
credentials that would give her access to rinkside or other restricted
areas during a USFSA competition.

But skaters often go to "specialists" for help with particular aspects of
their skating, and these people don't have to be USFSA members because
they are not THE coach of the skaters.

A question that I can't answer is whether if, for instance Ljudmillia
Skatelikehellova used Harding as her primary coach, and then if Milli
entered an international ISU-sanctioned competition, would the ISU honor
the ban of one of its member bodies and not provide credentials to
Harding.

Now that Hersh has supplied the answer ;^), maybe... "Nicole Bobek is training
with a new coach, Kerry Leitch, in Bradenton, Fla." How close is that to
Sarasota?
