My God, Bbarlou, where'd you hear this?  I enjoyed their skating so much.
It's always a disappointment when someone you admire turns out to be,
alas, human.

I vaguely remember this.  I believe the skater who missed the bus was Elvis
Stojko.

Dios mio!  What did he have against Stojko?  Or was he just being
self-absorbed?

There is a way to speed up the process.  A Congessional Representative needs
to propose a special bill to make XXX a citizen.  This is one of those
things that the other reps all go along with.  Tanith and Ben (or Ben at any
rate) need to get their Congressional Rep on board and get it done.  USFSA
and IOC should be able to provide support.

The best friend you have in the government is your Congressional
Representative.  If you don't ask for help, they don't know you need it.  If
you ask for something reasonable, they will try - been there with the INS,
never would have fixed the problem without my Congressional Representative.

To add to my last post, if you find a friend in
Congress, then you need to support them. That is the way politics works.  I
have never seen a list of Representatives and Senators that are Figure
Skating supporters, and it is pretty obvious that we need such a list.  I
would support them, and I am sure I am not alone.

Well, as much as I like figure skating I'm afraid that there are much more
urgent issues and the fact that a politician is a figure skating supporter
alone would not do much to get my vote.

And politicians are known to take care of lesser issues than this one, so...

In the words of former Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill "All politics is
local".  Having been the beneficiary of my Congressional Representative
solving an "unimportant" personal problem with the INS, you can believe he
got my vote until he died.  They are your representatives, and they know
that you vote.  If you don't tell them you want something, they don't know.
They have staff people who handle these things, all they have to do is
propose the bill.  The other representatives will cooperate - they all have
the same issues.

If I recall correctly, Stojko joked about this in a phluff segment of
a COI telecast.  It appears that Swallow was just absent-minded rather
than deliberately causing Stojko to miss the bus.

That's whats wrong with this country, representatives working only for their
local issues, not the good of the country as a whole.
