Did you only watch Derochie and recall her program to berate her on this ng, or
were there other ladies in the flight as well who skated?  I'd much rather hear
how they *did* as opposed to how Derochie *didn't*.

She came 7th out of 8 in her flight today for the Short Program. She began with the highlight of her program, the 2 flip then continued to do a 1 lutz and finally a 1 axel.
I was mighty impressed.

Well, considering many here and in other forums were decrying how Angie
had been left off Grand Prix assignments, I think her performance at
Minto more or less speaks for itself, and is worthy of noting.
Finishing 7th out of 8 skaters, and completing a 2-flip as her toughest
jump speaks volumes to me.

Maybe it would have been easier to swallow the account if the witness in
question didn't sound so sarcastic and deriding?

Just a thought.

And that's different from most of the other posts in this group in
*which* way?

Hey--at least when I'm sarcastic and deriding, I'm sarcastic and deriding
to people who really are deserving. Not some skater I don't even know.

None, really--and sometimes it's too bad.

The point is no one deserves to be treated this way. Not even some newsgroup
readers you don't know. What's wrong with being polite?

Absolutely nothing.  And what's polite is to attempt to abide by the
informal "rules" that are embodied in the FAQ.

I've noticed this too Jane - actually I find it happens with all skaters
except for Elvis and Bourne & Kraatz.  Not that that remains very
pretty either ;-)

(Sigh). Every time a thread starts about Angela Derochie, or
even about any other Canadian lady, we get about 2 on-topic
posts and then major thread drift!

Does this happen because the Canadian ladies are so low in
the elite rankings, or because of some other reason?

Is this a corollary of the theory that "every thread eventually leads
to Tara-and-Michelle", in that "every thread about Angela Derochie
eventually drifts to politeness"?

It was too bad that Angie messed up her short program, but hey,
it's the summer, perhaps she'll show her drive again in the autumn
competitions (I was going to write "the fall competitions", but thought
it might leave things too open to interpretation! :)

Apparently, she got it together for the long program. Good for her.

I did, after all, miss Minto Skate (I had a scheduling conflict). And guess
what.... not a single WORD in the city newspaper about the competition!
You wouldn't even know that it had happened!

So... any other results from Minto Skate? Would anyone mind sharing?
(Have you recovered yet from mega-hours in the arena?)

Jane H.
