I know what the critics say....It was an interpretive free skate....and
Josee was more inventive.  Okay I do not contest that Josee was
more invnetive, she had the "interpretive" part down.....but what
about the other part....the "skate".  If Josse had skated just a little
better....you know like landing the lutz then maybe I could understand
and go along with the results, but she didn't.  In reality she only
landed one triple jump to michelle's three.  I understand that it is
not all about the jumps but it is not as though Michelle had no
artistry, no interpretation, her program was solid both artistically
and technically, Josse's only artistically.  Please don't get me wrong
I think it great for skater to push the envelope but they have to
present a full and balanced package both artistically and technically.
IMO Josee only fulfilled one half of the bargain and should not have
won that competition.  Michelle had it all,  she interpreted that music
well and she was technically sound.

P.S. Just so you know I am not an avid Michelle Kwan fan, but when I
see an injustice I point it out.

well said!
I too agree that an injustice should be pointed out. Also, Michelle handled
the interview afterwards with dignity, grace, and honesty. She was honest
about her dissapointment and she did not make one negative remark. Good for
her!

Josee won the competition because one judge placed Sarah Hughes first.
it's not a unanimous win anyway.... just as in the case of the men's. i
thought it was great for TNT to show the ordinals for the ladies
result, to show that it wasn't a unanimous win; and i wished they had
done the same thing with the men's results.... which i personally
thought Kurt should have won the competition.

I agree. And I believe, to quote*** Cheney, "Big Time."  I wonder if
the effect of the Mime thing is more dramatic live though. Because
those are the type of things that can really get your attention in live
performance, while it could come across on TV as pretty flat (like
Philippe's stripping stint, on TV it sucks but live it really creates
energy from the crowd).

I actually thought that Beautiful World was a wonderful piece that
showcases pure skating skills and very enjoyable to watch. I loved
Sarah's Fosse, and if it was up to me, I would have had Sarah and MK
tied at this particular event.

Josee would have won even if Sarah had not been placed first because she was
placed second and MK third.

Regarding the Canadian Open and placements:

I think that this is a case of just not knowing what the judges were going to
emphasize.   In fact, the judges were obviously split - some going the way of
superior technical but less dramatic interpretation, others vice versa.
Personally, I would have split the difference and gone with Hughes, as one of
the judges did.  Michelle looked a little distressed in her post-competition
interview, but I thought she spoke well.

In addition to distressed, I would add tired.  But I'm probably
only one of many who could see the fatigue in her face.

Seems to me this is how she looked last season at this time also. At the Grand
Prix Finals, and Nationals, she looked like she was exhausted by her schedule.
Now, if she is working hard to change her short program and fix her long, and
get into better shape, she must be tired.

I think they were trying to tell Michelle that she always does the same thing.
I always wonder why she does the same old moves every time.  I get tired of it.
I loved her 2 years ago, liked her last year but this year I'm tired of it.
Sorry, but I'm glad Josee won.  I think her program had wonderful edging as
well.

You must be tired of a lot of skaters.  Irina and her Biellmann's and skating
to classical music, Maria also skates to pretty similar style music and often
uses the same programs several years in a row.
The thing is, you see Michelle skate many more times than you do other skaters.
I guess it's true that familiarity breeds contempt.

[sarcasm]
Yeah, but they live in poverty in Russia while MK has been spoiled and
coddled her entire life and she makes lots of money now so it's okay to
nitpick her every move.

I like that, I think I'll use it.

As a technicality, I just wanted to point out that skating to the same music
with roughly the same choreography does not mean you're being repetitious.
Maria has changed the elements within her programs even when she doesn't change
the music.

That said, I DID get sick of that white-costumed program with the tinny piano
music with which she won Worlds.

Unless, of course it's Michelle.  Then it's repetitious.

One more time, what the HELL does this have to do with what she put on the
ice that night???!?!?!
She was technically pure and her presentation was flawless! What the hell
does what she did last year or last week have to do it??
If that is the complaint then Josee should get the same. Anyone remember the
"The Sweater?"

So did Michelle's as well as spins, jumps, spirals and a lot of other
wonderful edging things Josee didn't!
