Yeah, like it gave Lisa-Marie Allen (5'10") or Marina Kielmann (5'8"). :-)

I think Button said that she's 5'3" at only 13 years of age.  At this rate,
with the usual 4-5 inch puberty growth spurt, she might grow to 5'7"-5'8" and
that will definately give her some serious problems down the road!  What's
going on with that ugly Lutz technique?  Her picking leg is practically
parrallel to her chest when she does the jump!

I think puberty will hurt her. Especially since she has a rather unorthodox
jumping technique.

Thanks

I think sarah Hughes is lucky that***, being the perfectionist he is, didnt
critisize her for flutzing.  She really flutzed big time but now that I think
about it she does jump in the opposite direction so maybe that threw me off.
I'll have to watch closely tomorrow.  I finally found another skater who turns
to the right.

I don't know about that. Did you get a look at her? Considering she actually
has a figure, it is at least possible that the worst is over.  Some people can
hit puberty *and* the worst of the growth spurt long before 13. (I was already
6 feet at 13. I topped out at 6'2". And I'm a guy.)

To put a finer point on it: when she skated out on the ice, my first reaction
was, "She's THIR***?????" Especially considering she came right after Naomi
Nari Nam. And I'm not talking about height, either <G>

The million dollar question is whether the USFSA will make her get a nose job
before the '02 Olympics like they did for Debi Thomas!

<<I think Button said that she's 5'3" at only 13 years of age.  At this rate,

rely not on expectations of "usual...I was 5'1" at age thir*** but the good
ole growth "spurt" added only a steady quarter-inch a year, squirting me up to
a breathtaking 5-foot-almost-three by high school graduation. A last inch of
growth arrived at at some mysterious point between the ages of 19 and 22. (I'd
given up hope and stopped measuring myself once I hit college....)

ANYway, according to my pediatrician, this was not an unusual growth pattern
for small-to-average framed females. Much depends on familty genetic history. A
lot of women max out their height  around twelve to thir*** years of age, with
their figures filling out  afterwards...or as somebody I knew in junior high
said at the time, "Bones first, then ***."

That odd leggy lutz makes me think that Sara Hughes has already fought some of
the gangly puberty demons into (awkward) submission. Let's hope she keeps up
the battle and gains some confidence and grace as well.

I was at my present height at 12 and had all the other earmarks of
"womanhood," too.

To me, Sarah looked like any 13 year old you would see at the local
junior high school. It was actually a nice thing to see.

I was within an inch of my *** height at 13, so it's quite possible
that since she does have a figure, she's about done with her growth
spurt. Some kids get it earlier rather than later.

It all probably depends on her family genes.  If her siblings and parents are
tall, more than likely she is going to grow more.  The question is, how much.
The commentators (can't remember which one) seemed to think she will grow
more, probably based on what the rest of the family looks like.

Well, it really depends.  She might grow or she might not.  I had my 4-5 inch
growth spurt when I was in junior high, going from 4'4"-4'9" and then since
then I've slowly grown two more inches, so she may have already had her huge
growth spurt and may grow maybe an inch or two more or who really knows.  I
wish her the best of luck!  =)  I think she has enormous talent!

I agree. I didn't know she was that tall already. She hasn't really
even begun a growth spurt. Remember Oksana between the ages of 15-18?
Huge height/weight difference and she was only 5 ft. at 15 years old.
BTW- Does anyone know how tall Sasha Cohen is? I have heard such
amazing things about her this year.

I'm not ready to rave of her yet.  I think she needs to work on her
presentation, particularly her posture and those "okay, I'm going to be
jumping any minute now" dead zones.

I think she will be something to rave about in the future.  She makes me
think of Irina Slutskaya -- and if she's almost on par with Irina
despite the differences in their ages, she's doing very well.

Sasha is only 4'8 (according to her bio on the USFSA's site) and she's
14
She has amazing artistry for her level and she should easily rival the
seniors
in the near future.

AND Caryn Kadavy!!  Her nose was much more "distracting" to her skating.

I was watching it last night with some of the home boys, and when Hughes
came on we all went "OUCH!!".  Let's hope she, uh, improves with age.  Like a
nice wine.
