J&J Ceramic barrel does not seem finished?

J&J Ceramic barrel does not seem finished?

Post by Kenneth Barne » Tue, 19 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I just bought a j&j ceramic one piece for my prolite.  I was wondering,
when I look down the barrel from both ends I can see grooves inside the
bore and it does not seem to have a mirror finish like my ACI barrel
does.  Is this barrel bore (on the J&J) finish correct?  Please let me
know what you think.

whne you shoot with that barrel it leaves streaks / groves that seams to
give it that unfinished look after a few through cleanings it seamed to go
away but even while it was there it did not effect the performace.

..but then again i could be wrong

Ceramic scares me.  I can tell in my Aluminum barrels that, if any blemish
is in there, it could be hurting performance.  If it's not shiny all the way
through, its not clean enough.

why does ceramic scare you? it isn't ceramic on the inside it is a thin layer
of aluminum that has ceramic coated around it.  Then it has teflon injected as
they apply the inside (bore) layer to the barrel.  Clean your barrel and you
should set, i think u just got some streaks like the first guy said.

is the ACI barrel you have good for accuracy and stuff.  Im getting a
new barrel soon.  The ACI is cheaper than the smart parts AA barrels but
about the same as an ACI.  if you had a choice would you get a smart
parts progressive or an ACI.  I'll probably end up getting both but for
a cheaper barrel i can get sooner with my budget right now i might go
for an ACI barrel.  About your question, im not sure but it doesnt sound
like it is finished since all barrels are supposed to be smooth and
shiny when you buy them.  My stock tippmann barrel had no smoothness to
it when i got it but after shooting about 400 rounds through it it
smoothed out abit.  maybe j and j come with rifling but it should still
be shiny new inside.

Use a squegee with cloth (straight shot squegee), use some mild soap, and
scrub the inside of the barrel.  Try this first, if it doesn't get the
streaks out, then give J&J a call.
