They showed a trailer for "Blackhawk Down"! Now some might bash Bey and
Bruckheimer for their work, but I enjoyed Pearl Harbor. And this new movie
looks to have a LOT of action. Anyone who enjoys paintball will like this
one a lot! Also, if you haven't seen Wild Geese with Richard Burton, Roger
Moore, Hardy Kruger, and Richard Harris - TRY to find it. Its a keeper! I
just hope someday they also make Rainbow 6 into a movie as well! Always on
the lookout for a good "tactics" style movie!

I dunno...  I've read the book several times, and one of the things that
I thought the most worthwhile about it is that it doesn't John-Wayneify the
whole combat thing; it keeps it realistic and shows the consequences.  The
fact that it's Bey and Bruckheimer doing BHD is not cause for optimism
IMHO.

After seeing the trailer myself, I'm pretty sure that there's going to
be lots of melodrama and stirring music and slow-motion explosions, and
they're just going completely avoid what made the book so remarkable... the
fact that it utterly deromanticized combat.  They're going to avoid the
uncomfortable bits about 5-tons and Humvees getting back to the airport
awash in viscera, Rangers shooting at crowds of unarmed civilians, shooting
women with babies in their arms, shooting chickens, name it (and if you
don't believe me on this, go and read the book).  They're not going to show
Sgt. Galentine with his hand sewn into his stomach for weeks so they could
reattach his thumb.  They'll have to if they want to make their money back;
if they were faithful to the events, they'd send most of their audience
running for the exits with the heaves.

In short, they're just going to make another unremarkable war movie out
of it, which is pretty sad, because it's a pretty remarkable book.

And yes, I think that all paintballers should read it.  It's a great
reality check and should destroy any illusions they might have about the
sport being anything remotely like combat.

Yeah; the one where the Rangers and Delta Force tried to *** a couple
of Aidid's flunkies and things went horribly wrong...
