Tiger Stripe Cammies --- Where to buy????

Post by Cry Havoc » Wed, 23 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Anyone know where I can buy the ORIGINAL
100% ripstop cotton Vietnam-style Tiger Sripe
cammies? Not the pullover stuff, I'm talking
about real Cammies/Utilities/BDU's. Hard to
find the old style. They have more of a yellowish
streak in the pattern (which I think breaks
up your pattern MUCH more than the new). The
newer ones have greyish/dark brown like tints
in the highlighting and thats seems what most
people are selling now. Grrrrr.

US Cavalry carries 2 patterns of tiger stripe.  They sound like the
ones you're describing.  The number is: 1-888-88USCAV.

I wear tiger stripe camo.  I got mine at Command Post in Houston.  It's
an army surplus store that carries all kinds of cool stuff.  These were
brand new and I even found a hat with the same patern there.  One of
those floppy recon/desert storm hats.

Tiger stripe isn't a good pattern in the first place. If shadows run in a
different direction (than the tiger stripes) on you it really makes u a
lot more visible than if you were wearin good old BDU's.

I disagree, I think that at any distance (25 yards or more, the pattern has to be bigger to
make a real difference (assuming you're not wearing a ghilli suit).  At longer distances, the
eye cannot distinguish the closeness of shades in the US forest camo pattern, rather the eye
just sees a large, dark green blob.  Tiger stripes provide a larger, more diverse pattern which
more properly mimicks the sudden shadows of a forest at greater distances.  I think that ASAT
camo from Brigade Quartermasters is the best example of this.  It is the most effective cammo
I've ever worn and it is the most versitile.  It is not an intricate pattern, but rather, uses
large swipes of black and brown over a light tan base.  The tan base also helps to reflect some
of the surrounding color, be it shades of green or brown.  With the lighter color, people tend
to look right through it, because they are looking for a dark body and they let themselves
percieve the light tan to be in the background.

This is what I've found in my experience of wearing ASAT, Tigerstripes, US Forest, and plain
black.  The best camo is conflicting camo (extreme lights and darks) in large patterns.

Well, whoever asked where to buy the Tiger stipe cammies, the answer is US
Cavalry.  Their website is www.uscav.com.  They just started putting the
cheap ones in their mag this month.  You can get a tiger stripe BDU jacket
for $19.95 and the pants BDU for the $19.95.  I bought my BDU from them,
and they are comfy.  US Cav is a great mag for buying tons of cool things
to play paintball and more, they are army surplus and you can get belts
and stuff.  Just check it out.

Just bought mine from there, and the sizes are HUGE!. I got large, being
6ft and 170lb, but the pants were too big in L. Haven't got the shirt
yet.
