Airsoft is a company that makes electronic BB guns that run on rechargable
batteries.  These BB guns are replica's of real guns such as oozies.  They look
so real and the cool thing is that they do dhoot BB's.  They are so detailed
that they actually use magazines and have selector switches for semi and
automatic choices.  They are really cool, go check them out at
http://www.2kweb.net/cqb/  If anyone knows where to get those paintball BB's
post it.  That would kick ass for rec. play.

Are Airsoft guns used for a paintball-like game, or just for target practice?

Airsoft guns were created in Japan and they use them just like we use paintguns
(they're not allowed to own airguns.)

They are authentic 1:1 scale replicas that use 6mm bb's.  They are mostly
electric (there's some gas versions) and fully automatic.

They are an absolute blast to play with!

I have pictures at http://www.cimmerians.com and be sure to check out X-Ring's
site at http://www.best.com/~vxl/airsoft/ too.

Airsoft is basically a bb gun.  It shoots 6mm plastic bb's anywhere from 200
fps to 500 fps, depending on the gun.
The cheaper guns (about $50 in Asia) are hand***ed, using a spring and a
plunger to compress air behind the bb.  The more expensive guns (above $600
and higher in asia) use batteries and motors to***, giving them envious
rates of fire (approaching 20 rds per second).
The expensive ones are exceptionally realistic in size, detail, weight, and
operation.  They even use spring loaded clips to force feed the bb's into
the breech.  Some of the guns you see blazing away in movies are airsoft
guns because of the detail they have.
There are 6mm paintballs for these guns.  I know RP has made some in the
past, and various companies in Asia make the 6 mm paintballs.
Games are played like normal paintball games, except no flags.  The honor
system is used when someone is hit.
Anymore questions?  :)

Hi,

"Airsoft" is not really the manufacturer, but the type of gun.  There's 3 or 4
different manufacturers.  Tokyo Marui is probably the most pre***.

Don't use the 6mm bb's!!!!!  We've tried them and they suck.  They break too easy
and this is bad, bad news when you try to clean them out.  There's no access to the
breach without taking the whole damn thing apart; all you can do is swab the
barrell with a rod and it's just a bad scene.

When we play, we say "bouncers" count for both Paintball and Airsoft (we use a mix)
and it works.

Dave

Here is my question.  Now Airsoft guns look suprisingly realistic and are used
in a society where gun ownership is illegal.  Now, this doesn't make much sense
to me at all.  Im pretty sure that they probally leave the markers at the
Paintball place.  But, still they look to realistic.
(Whoah, I think a question mark should be in there somewhere, oh well...)

Are the 6mm paintballs expensive?  This sounds like it might be superior to
paintball.  Do they have more range and accuracy?

No.  They're far less expensive than paint; $25 for 2000 bb's.

Their range is about the same; they're accuracy is better.  The bb's fly
straight whereas paintballs have to be arc'd upwards and lobbed to get the same
range.

Airsoft is superior on both counts.
