Hey eveyone-

I proposed an AIrsoft NG so the AIrsoft people can't use the Line "We post here
cuz we have no were else......" I should know in a week or so if they approve.
This is what it said.....

I propose the newsgroup of alt.sport.airsoft

For your newsgroups file:
alt.sport.airsoft    - Info related to the sport of Airsoft

CHARTER:

A low-volume unmoderated newsgroup for announcements related Airsoft stage
props and recreation projectiles (NOT FIREARMS). Possible topics include which
Airsoft "gun" to buy, play dates, tactics, discussion, and the like.  Target
volume is about 20 messages daily. Binary postings and off-topic postings are
not permitted. Adverti***ts are allowed, as long as they are forewarned,
i.e., Ad, F/S, F/T, ect.

JUSTIFICATION FOR NEWSGROUP:

This newsgroup is intended to prevent Airsoft people from posting in the
loosely related newsgroups of rec.sport.paintball and alt.sport.paintball.
Recently, there has been an overflow of Airsoft people in the paintball
newsgroups, resulting in the angering of paintballers, since they do not wish
the 2 sports to be related closely. This new newsgroups would stop many of the
"flamewars" about Airsoft in paintball groups, and provide a meeting place for
new and current Airsoft players.

Thank you for your consideration,
Josh Barta

Josh,

You are to be commended for the
thought and effort you have dedicated
to resolving this matter.  Instead of just
whining as everyone else has done,
you have taken positive steps to satisfy
all parties.

Well done,

Good job, I commend you both on your research to see what is needed,
and in a well-written proposal. I forget if alt.* needs votes, but
if so, be sure to let me know then the CFV comes through.

Sounds like a fine idea to me! I'd love to see them have their own NG so
they'll stop trying to convert us or knock on paintball.

I don't knock airsoft, afterall.

Well, maybe 5 months ago there was some posts that kept trying to give
reasons why Airsoft was better than paintball and why we should all give up
paintball.
I don't remember ever asking YOU to leave this NG. You play paintball, fine.
Good, Im glad...post here all you want.
You play Airsoft, Cool. Post airsoft stuff on this Airsoft NG if it ever
takes off.

Post on both, I really dont care. Just keep em seperate, please.
I don't have anything against Airsoft, it looks fun. My point is that I
don't want to see RSP cluttered with Airsoft posts, just as I'd hope
paintballers wouldnt crosspost into the proposed Airsoft NG.

Nobody is asking you to leave.  As far as I'm concerned, anyone who plays
paintball (or is even interested in the sport) and behaves is welcome to
contribute.  The proposed airsoft group is so paintballers don't have to
wade through off-topic airsoft posts; the same reason there's, say, ham
radio groups.  I have an interest in ham operation, but I don't keep posting
about it here.  Same thing should generally go for airsoft.

The FAQ states what IS allowed, not what is NOT. And it states that
it is a Paintball newsgroup. Airsoft, even with 'paint bbs', is NOT
paintball, and as such, is off topic.

Perhaps we should ask a few ISP's if they think it is on-topic or
not. I'll write in to speakeasy.org, and see if they think your
posts are off-topic. Of course, if they do, you will either be
told not to, or have your account suspended, but it's a small
price to pay in the pursuit of clarity.

To both you and "DharkeS", a quote from the RSP FAQ:

BEGIN QUOTE
3. Posting to R.S.P.
=====================

3.1 What Topics Can I Cover In My Posts?

R.S.P. invites the discussion of any topic related to the sport of
paintball.
END QUOTE

When a new group is proposed, included in the proposal is a purpose or topic
classification.  I'm not sure what it originally was for RSP, but I am sure
that it would be something pretty close to (if not exactly) what's in the
FAQ, which it is derived from it or submitted in place of it.  Read the
name, rec.sport.paintball is for PAINTBALL, not ham radio, pizza delivery
drivers, spam evasion techniques, general local chat., or airsoft.  Now I
don't have any problem with people discussing slightly off topic posts here,
nor would I really do anything about it (like you say, I'm not the net
police).  I think that common courtesy dictates that off topic posting
should be kept to a minimum, because there are other groups where it can be
taken.
Personally, I don't know what's wrong with you kiddies.  Josh is trying to
do the airsoft community a favor by getting its own ng.  That means your
sport is growing and becoming more popular.  That is something you should be
happy about, not try to start flaming wars over.

If posts you make here violate your ISP's acceptable use policy, eg. off
topic posts, they can close your account.  Since we -- the regular readers
of this group -- are the ones who will file complaints with your ISP if you
post off topic etc., then yes, we do indeed have a say in what you can do
here.  Just ask the rasslin' idiot Sabu424 who has to get a new ISP every
month as his accounts are terminated, and is having trouble finding one that
will let him use that screen name since the abuse committed here under that
name is now following him around.  For the most part nobody will care what
you post here, but in the case of the increasing number of airsoft posts, it
has the potential to become a problem, and that's why folks are reacting to
it.

Posting here is like playing paintball, so long as you stay within the rules
then you're welcome, have a good time.  But if you choose to go outside the
rules, then sooner or later a ref is going to call you out.
