HEy friends, sorry to interrupt your important threads, I hope I will not
disturb you with this sball post with much less importance.

Season started!

Last week first race on 6K at Limsky K***in Croatia, organized by Arupinum
Rovinj, beautiful race in this beautiful fiord. Both me and Claudia came
third after a long fighting, starting each category together (senior single
scull male, female). Organization was perfect, race programs and results in
each language, lunch offered to all partecipants, very kind people, very nice
race. In my race first place to Andrej Nikles, second Pine Pislar with 5
seconds then me, I was all the race half a boat behind, tryed all out in the
last Km and exploded so I took 15 seconds from Andrej.

Today first 2K race here (Barcola in Trieste). 4 qualifying heats at 8:30am
for a total of 18 scullers, I came second and qualifyed for the final. I was
a bit tired then for many reasons, went home, breakfast, played a bit with my
little dougther that got a bit of temperature, then to see the son a while at
the handball matches and at 13:00 started the final, fourth for all the race
but at the last 500m buoy I was together with other two for second place,
told myself "I do not care to come second instead of forth, I just want to
win, so I start a progression until I catch him up then die", well it took
300m of all out effort to do it but when I put my bow in front, gasping and
calculating there were still too many strokes to go... the other guy died
before me so I was able to come first! Perfect way to start a rowing season
8^)

I must add an important thing here, after the heats I realized I would have
fought for first places, but it would have been really hard to win, so I
decided with my coach to take out my last resource: Luca's boat. I use all
the year Luca's old boat, and at the end of the season I put in water Luca's
new boat, the one bought by Luca's friend to help him go to the Oly*px road,
name "Atleti Azzurri d'Italia", I use it only for the main race of the year,
so it didn't touch water since my last year adventure in Villach, Austria.

It may be it is newer, it may be psychological, it may be it's a different
hull shape, but I prefer to think it's thinking to Luca that gives me the
boost.

Mike,

8 other people I know understand exactly what you mean.

Any pictures from Croatia? It sounds fantastic.

Incidentally (and hideously offtopic), nlroei.nl have 2 (yes, an expensive
trip) photos from the WeHORR, one of which ably demonstrates the
conditions on the day, although I recall it being even worse in places.

(snip)

Temperature, Edmonton Alberta, -20 C tonight Forecast - snow flurries tonight and
tomorrow.

We get on the water for the first time maybe in the last week of April or the
first week of May, depending on when the river thaws...  I can (but won't) walk
across it, with about 1.5 m of water flowing underneath the 30 or so cm of
ice.....

But, I'm only jealous.

economical!
