I watched the race on the monitors and the shore:  50+ off the line,
settle to 43, 40-41 for the body, 43+ last 25 strokes.

I'll confirm this weekend, but I'm fairly sure this is correct.  The
father of the cox and I are members of the same rowing club.  I've
seen the video and am pretty sure I remember the "stroke-by-stroke"
commentator saying exatcly this.

Definitely.  I was at worlds and the 8+ was out of the stakes at over a
50.  They shifted to over a forty and held it there for the duration.  I
think Bob Ernst was the commentator for the grandstands and he seemed to
be suprised that guys that big could row that high. ; )
