Hello all Camp Bob Cooper Alumni!
UNH had the pleasure of training at camp Bob last year. At that
time I was a novice woman. One afternoon we were out on the water for
our practice and heard planes flying rather close by. We did not think
much of it until they started to get closer. We noticed that they were
sea planes, rather large ones at that. As we were rowing right by the
middle of camp one of the very large planes decided to land and was
coming right at us. The plane did not look like it had any intention of
stopping before it came extremely close to us. Being the novice women
that we were we all became coxswains with the common idea of getting the
hell out of there as fast as possible. Luckily we weren't too far from
the main dock and were able to get there quickly and get our boats out
too. Later we found out that there was a fire nearby and that these
planes were collecting water to spread over the fires.
As far as the food went, I ate peanut butter or rather almond
butter and jelly sandwiches every day. Slow food was the phrase of the week.
This year we had a nice change of pace in Knoxville, TN. The
weather was beautiful, we stayed in a nice hotel, and ate at the UT
dining hall. The food was fairly good and very plentiful so other than
the 2 miles we had to walk to get there it was a good meal deal.
My condolences to all of you who were at camp Bob this year.
