I have just received notification that the British Indoor Rowing
Championships is now planned for the 25th November instead of the 26th. This
is so they can hold a 'Team Slide Championship' on the 26th. While I welcome
the concept of a team event, this puts the BIRC and 5 heads in competition,
namely Hampton, Huntingdon, Evesham, Bristol Uni and Glasgow.
I would imagine that many athletes may wish to attend one of these events,
and participate in the BIRC on the Sunday. We have two 1999 BIRC junior
champions at Evesham who would certainly feel this way.
I fear that all events will suffer as a consequence, but in particular the
BIRC entry will be degraded in both quality and quantity, and may no longer
represent 'the best' in indoor rowing. I would welcome your correspondence
on this to help persuade the organisers to reconsider, and to run the BIRC
on Sunday 26th as originally planned (which would not clash with any other
