Help: looking for a "rowboat"

I know this forum is for the sport of rowing, but since you use oars and
spend a lot of time on the water (as do I), I thought you might have some
ideas about this...

I'm looking for a rowing workboat or fishing boat, 14-17 feet long, that would
row really well; not a competition machine, but something that I can knock
around on some lakes with, do some fishing in, and lay-about upon. There's a
big ad on the 'net for a place out on the West Coast of Canada that makes
really great-looking lapstrake rowboats, but about the time I spent
$6,000-$7,000 on a rowboat I would be dead from wifely gunshot wounds. Does
anybody know where I can get a decent boat, with low-maintenance materials
(fiberglass? plastic?) for even a couple of grand?

(I'm located in Minnesota -- a Midwestern source would be a bonus.)

Try http://www.woodenboat.com (Woodenboat Magazine) they may just be
able to give you some great contacts in your area.  They are great
people to talk to and if it's about wooden boats it gets even better.

Good luck,
