What'sa Double Weigh?

What'sa Double Weigh?

Hi RSR,

My club is in the process of purchasing a new double.  The only doubles
we've owned in the past have been Little River Marine SeaShells, which
are extremely heavy.  We've currently got a two week trial with a 4 year
old Vespoli double.  Everyone's first impression is that the boat is
very heavy.  Since we don't have anything to compare it with, I was
wondering if someone could tell me what the typical weight is for a
double.

Thanks,

According to Ron Chen's FISA Rules - which is about as definitive as it gets -
( http://www.rci.rutgers.edu/~ronchen/fisarr3.htm#MK100 )
the minimum legal weight for a double is 27kg (including riggers, seats,
stretchers). This is just under 60lbs in American money. Any decent racing
shell will be built close to this minimum weight.
