Oxford vs. Cambridge

Oxford vs. Cambridge

I don't know a thing about rowing, but I would like to go and visit the famous
Oxford vs. Cambridge race some time. Can anyone tell me when they row this
race? Furthermore, can anyone tell me which towns are passed in this race, the
exact starting and finishing point, the history of the race, and who the most
recent winner is?

Sorry.  You just missed "THE RACE", as is is simply called by the Brits)
for '95, it was April 1st (no fooling). It's been going on since 1829, and
likely to last another 166 years or so.  Book early for next year.  I'll
let someone else respond with the winner & time, etc.  Call The Rowers
Bookshelf in Wenham, MA (508)468-4096 and ask owner Pat Smith to subscribe
you to REGATTA Magazine.  It's a British writing that she imports for us
here in "the colonies". The most recent edition (number 77 April 1995) has
lots of info on it, and a great perspective on rowing from a British point
of view where rowing truely rules.  Be sure to read the cartoon "The
Alternative Rower" (in issue 77, it's on page17).  It's the first thing I
do when I get my magazine.  The more you learn of rowing, the funnier this
cartoon will seem, especially if you like British-style humor!  Give Pat a
call, and please tell her I said hello.......Bill McGowan
