BYU Report: BYU vs. Wyoming  February 6, 1993

FINAL SCORE: BYU 75  Wyoming 62

The Wyoming Cowboys came to Provo Saturday night in a rematch one week
after BYU defeated the Cowboys in Laramie. BYU was still without the
services of Kevin Nixon. Nick Sanderson was having a terrible week
offensively, going 3 of 17 for the two games this week. So BYU's two
best offensive players were not producing for the Cougars - should
make for interesting, close games, right? NOT!

BYU smoked Colorado St. on Thursday, leading by as much as 30 points.
On Saturday, the story was much the same as the Cougs led by as much
as 27 points midway through the second half before letting the Cowboys
close up a little.

Wyoming failed to score a field goal in the first 4 and a half minutes
of this game and had just four points, all from the free throw line.
BYU jumped out to an early 10-point lead at 18-8 then the Cowboys
found the range and closed to within 4 at 20-16. BYU went back out to
a 10-point lead at 30-20 and maintained a 35-24 halftime advantage.

BYU outscored the Cowboys 10-2 to start the second half and the game
was never in question after that. Midway through the half, BYU stole
the ball from the Cowboys on three straight possessions and took
their largest lead over the Cowboys at 59-32. The Cowboys then scored
nine straight points to pull back to 59-41. After BYU stiffled the
Cowboy rally, it was all over by the final score which was a 13-point
victory (75-62) for the Cougars -- closer than the game really was.

NEXT

BYU and Utah go on the Far West WAC swing this week visiting Hawaii
and San Diego St. BYU usually plays San Diego St. first then has
little time to fly into Hawaii and practice. This time, however, BYU
goes to Hawaii first and will get an extra day to get used to the
climate. Hawaii can play well enough on their home court to give the
Cougars a challenge, but San Diego St. isn't a very good team this
year and should prove to be an easy game. Let's just hope the Cougars
don't let down.
