I love Roberto Petagine, but I wouldn't make this trade.  San
Diego doesn't look like they're going to give him a chance.
With Williams hurt most of the year, they let Scott Livingstone
play a very sub-par offensive 1B rather than even let Petagine
get a shot.  Stupid of them, IMO, but if they don't play him,
you don't get the benefit of how good he is.

BTW, he didn't flop.  It's tough to get into a groove when all
you do is pinch hit four times/week.  Given a real chance, he
should shine.  Will he get that chance?  That's the real
question..

I would HOPE the Padres are not serious about giving Livingstone
regular PT if they are going to contend in the West (not that Petagine showed
much this year.)

I put Stewart's chances of being a regular Blue Jay next year as
somewhere between slim and nil. Cito is back for one more year and the Jays
have already said that resigning White is a priority (Ash believes in the
philosophy of being strong "across the middle") - right up with Alomar (with
Leiter just behind.) If they can't get White back - and I'm suspecting he'll
be the easiest to get back unless they lose Alomar AND Leiter - don't be
surprised if Joe Carter is moved to center and they shop for a fifth
outfielder-type won't completely butcher the position. Stewart is going to
play at least 3/4ths of 1996 in Syracuse. The Jays almost never, for full
season purposes, rush a guy up two levels.
