Red Storm Now Red-Faced.

Dateline:  Jamaica/Queens, NY:  St. John's Erick 'You Drive' Barkley has been
suspended for exchanging ownership of cars with a family friend.  Though one
source said that no money or payments were involved, the exchange probably is a
violation of the Fourth Reich's, er, I mean, the NCAAs rules and regulations.
As for St. John's Red Storm name, that's pretty lame.  I always felt that if
you were going to make an impact in the way of being politically correct, it
should start with the professional teams, like the Washington Redskins, Atlanta
Braves, or Cleveland Indians.  Let's see someone push those franchises around.
Until these big boys start cooperating, the college and high-school level teams
should be left alone.  --  Merry Jamison McGrath.

I heard he traded down in terms of value.  How on earth
the NCAA cares about this is beyond me.  What they need
is a "Common Sense" amendment in a bill of rights.  Any
implementation or enforcement of a rule that violates
common sense, and the player/team gets the benefit of the
doubt.

I'll never forget the great Lewis Grizzard comment over the flap in
Atlanta during the 1991 World Series, when the Minnesota fans were
raggin' on the "Braves" moniker:

"What about the name 'Twins?'  Do you have *any* idea how insensitive
that is to people who can't have children?!"   :p

You're such a reactionary.  Redmen sounds like a bunch of chewing hicks
on a bass fishing trip to the reservoir.

I always liked "Buffalo Bills" as a name -- thought it very clever,
perhaps way too clever for the Buffalonians who then put a visage of a
wild cow on the helmets etc.  William Buffalo Bill Cody was a great
Indian scout, shootist, fancy horsman and entertainer to the Russian
Tsar's son under Philip Sheridan the US Army general's oversight, and
in his old age, initially at Sheridan's urging to come visit Chicago
and then New York, a world entertainer with an amazingly varied revue.

I recommend y'all visit at some point Cody, Wyoming (on the way to
Yellowstone if you stay off I-94) and take in the 4-museum complex
there and see some old footage of Buffalo Bill talking in signs with
Chief Iron Tail.  Buffalo Bill was a great friend of Indians -- after
a youth spent on hunting them down.  One of those things.  He was
also, ahem to all you SECers and ACCers, a Union man, like most other
Kansas Territory scouts such as his friend Wild Bill (James T.)
Hickok.  The Buffalo Bills need to put the famous big hat picture of
Buffalo Bill on their helmets or live forever in ignoramy, wasting the
most playful name in sports on somber, stuffed-cow literalism.

Brought to you by a Polish immigrant Chicago high school go IU fight
Hoosiers fight Expect Victory (yeah Right) I've been everywhere man
Evanston Kid.  Pot.  Kettle.  Buffalo. -- remember, you heard it here
(rsbbc) first (those many years ago, 8 to be exact).

P.s.  I met Dane and Dugan Fife's mother and aunt at the NU game.  Had
a blast.  I owned up to always rooting againt Dugan.  Nothing
personal -- on eof those red things.

Marek 'The Big' Lugowski:  This Red Storm topic is my first in this NG, just to
test the waters to see how cool you guys might be.  Maybe I'll hang around
awhile, but I'll have my work cut out for me.  I like establishing nicknames,
in case you haven't noticed.  :-)  This will be my third NG to settle in.  The
other two are alt.sports.college.pac-10 and rec.sport.football.college.  --
