You may have been robbed if you can't protect Cone next year at
something below $20 and he doesn't come back to pitch this year.
I have him as well, but at $10 so I intend to wait out this natural
disaster.  I'd be ecstatic with five weeks.  You're running the risk
of giving up a two position base stealer with a decent average (albeit
a free agent) and a question mark that could turn into a nice pickup.
I'm willing to bet you are also in the bottom half of your league
otherwise the uncertainty surrounding Cone would scare you off of
this deal.  -JF

Well, based on the news today that Cone will not pitch again this season,
and while he may play again, there is also a chance that he may never be
back, I would say that you really got SCREWED!

Cone was DL'ed due to an aneurism (I know spelling is not even close!) in
his pitching shoulder! While would you take him unless you keep players
for future years, and think (hope) he will be the same Cone when he comes
back.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. You really did not think you get the
best of this deal did you?

It's ok, if you think that Cone will be back within a month or so.  But
they're talking about his YEAR being over.  It's just not worth the
risk.  Sure, Lopez isn't much right now, but at least Roberts is
performing.

Where did you hear Cone will not pitch again this season? According to Nando, there is no estimate yet of
when he'll return. It does sound like there's a good chance he'll be out for the season or at least most of
it, but, nothing's certain yet.

Nando's article is at:

Well, in light of recent events I would have to say you got stiffed. Mr.
Cone is likely gone for the season and I think that Lopez and Roberts
will produce not too badly over the course of the year. Sorry!!

That is what they said on the sports radio station here in Boston. They
said "could" be out for the year. I also believe I read it in a few
newspapers, but can not be 100% positive. However, it was most likely the
same reports that said Mcgwire would be out until the All-star break.  I
hope Cone will be back, but the point was that there is a good chance he
may not be back! If he comes back in August or September, how many starts
do you thing he is going to get?

Unless you're rebuilding (in May??), I wouldn't.  Cone won't be back
till September, if he's back at all this year.  It's true that once he
comes back, he should be fine (albeit 34 years old).  But Bip is a pretty
valuable player who can definitely help you this year, and who knows
about Lopez.  My philosophy is, do everything you can to win this year,
until it's obvious that it's hopeless.  There'll be plenty of pennant
contenders more than willing to help you rebuild late in the year.
