> Here's hoping she gets the institutional support she will need to
In another feature, mention is made of the fact that two former
Cleveland-area Trinity High stars could face off in Sunday's women's
championship game. For that to transpire, Tennessee's Semeka Randall
must help her Lady Vols get by Rutgers (my pick and wish), while
"Christine" Falcone and the Penn State Lady Lions must upset
Connecticut. Hope Chrissy isn't insisting on being referred to by her
given name, but perhaps she's seeking an entourage. Maybe she chafed
under the fact Coach Rene Portland's daughter got to be "Christine"
while on the squad, thus relegating Falcone to being addressed by a
nickname. Regardless, I'll hedge my bets by selecting the Huskies while
rooting for them to join the Scarlet Knights in the stands on April 2.
During yesterday's open practice session, Falcone spoke about the fact
she and Randall have largely gone their separate ways since high
school. "This is unbelievable. We've played together since I was in
eighth grade and she was in seventh. Then we played together on AAU and
at Trinity for three years and won two state championships. I can't
wait to see her."
Even getting together in the "off-season" has been tough. "We don't
get a chance to see each other. She's doing camps, I'm doing camps.
But it's so weird, I can't see her in Cleveland, but we both took trips
to Europe last summer and I saw her in Switzerland on the street. It
was so funny. You expect that in Cleveland, but not Switzerland."
Incidentally, Penn State has not lost a game since Chrissy became the
regular shooting guard, and her timely treys have often been overlooked
by hoop whizzes attempting to analyze the Lady Lions' success.
Coincidentally, a certain poster to this newsgroup used the "meeting
on vacation in Europe" phrase in e-mailing me about the fact I had
responded to his post in another forum. He and I will be attempting a
stealth takeover of that board between the college and WNBA seasons,
while still checking in here on as regular a basis as possible. Perhaps
other "know-it-all" types would like to join our campaign...

And I'm darned happy to welcome her to Bloomington. A lot of IU
fans are, actually. We'll actually be competitive again soon :).
Kathi's a good coach, a great recruiter and a welcome addition
to the IU program (not to mention, I look like a prophet since I
started calling for her hiring over a year ago).
