I'm not that surprised.  Bennett is a well-established coach with his own
ideas about running a program.  Pat Richter, the Wisconsin AD, was looking
to get "his man" into the job, in much the same way he did with Barry
Alveraz in football.  I doubt if*** Bennett wanted to have all the hassle
of putting up with a program like Wisconsin's.

In my mind, I think Wisconsin is probably better off if they get a coach
like Stu Jackson.  I think*** Bennett would probably have "starved"
Finley and Webster.  Wisconsin would be best off in the short term by
finding a coach who can exploit these two.  If they can, they should be a
NCAA team by the time Webster is a senior, as long as they both continue to
improve.  On the other hand, they really need help on the inside.  McGee
should help if he continues to improve and stops worrying so much, but they
still need to find that center.

I predict Stu will be a failure - UW should have gotten
Bennett, an excellent college coach. Pat Richter is a
numbskull. Why does he think an unsuccessful pro coach
can make it in Mad-town?

Wrong...  Bennett turned down the offer after listening to Richter's
spiel, so he WASN'T interested.  I doubt if they would have chosen him
anyway, but the argument is academic.  Jackson had a winning record with
the Knicks, going 45-37 in his 1rst year and 7-8 in the 2nd before they
canned him - I guess they blamed Stu for the deterioration of Mark Jackson.

I will not *predict* who will be or would have been better.  I'll wait and
see what Stu can do.  He certainly impressed everybody yesterday with his
acceptance speech.
