USABasketball has a new article up on the Jones cup training camp . . .
. . . which is good, but I was momentarily mystified by the first paragraph:
"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 6, 2000) The top 12 collegiate womens
basketball players are facing off. But as they step onto the court they will
not be sporting the Old Gold of Purdue, Alabamas Crimson or the Orange of
Tennessee. Red, white and blue will be their colors."
"The top 12 collegiate women's basketball players" gave me pause, since players
like Ruth Riley, Tamika Catchings, and other top-shelf players declined
invitations for various reasons. But I figured that was just journalist
But Alabama Crimson?? Gad, I thought, who have I forgotten about? Enis . . .
long gone. Canty gone . . Stumped, I looked at the roster and immediately
spotted Deanna Jackson -- from UAB, the University of Alabama at BIRMINGHAM. If
I remember correctly from the NCAAs, their signature color is green, but
definitely not "Crimson".
