Dan Patrick and Barry Bonds talking on the radio now.

Post by Arvi » Fri, 07 Sep 2001 03:22:52

A 20 minute ESPN radio interview taped yesterday(9/4), is being
broadcast now on espn radio(knbr, other local affiliates).  I missed
the first few minutes of it, and it sounds like the two of them had a
pretty good repartee, especially considering that Dan trashed Bonds
earlier this season on espn.com.  Dan used the word "loquacious"
earlier to describe bonds.  Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know.
And if anyone knows where a stored version of it will be available,
I'd love to listen to it again.  Ditto if there will be a transcript
available.

Could be because I'm a Bonds fan but I'd take his personality/comments
over the generic "I just go out everyday and do the best I can", "He's
a great pitcher but we got the best of him today", etc....

So what if he pisses off the reporter from the Idaho Times because he
doesn't give him an interview.

I was enjoying what I heard.

And it makes clear why I'm such a Bonds fan ---- the man's personality
is not all that different from mine. I go to work, am focused and try
to do whatever I can to help my company make money, but it's not like
I'm buddy buddy with my colleagues. I can work with them and do and even
enjoy that part of my job, but basically I'm here to work, not to socialize.

And if I could have a separate room with my own Barcalounger and big
screen TV, you bet I would.

Dibble and Dan both mentioned this earlier that they preferred his
honesty to the smug/fake friendliness of other players.

He's not getting my vote for Most Valuable Poster, that's for sure.

I don't think he has a chance to win anyways. He'll be splitting the
"Dave" vote with Nieporent again this year. They're both screwed as long
as both of them are posting in the same newsgroup.

Uh-huh.  Then perhaps you can explain the tally a few years ago, when
Dave Tate, Dave Grabiner, Dave Nieporent, Clay DAVEnport, and Dave Pease
finished 1-2-3-4-5 in the voting.  Splitting the vote, indeed.

You, of all people, with your high and mighty MVP predictor, should
understand this.  As I recall, Pease's team won the pennant by 20
games.  Tate's team won a playoff for the wild card.  Without him,
they would have missed the playoffs instead of getting swept by Pease's
team.

Not too sure about that.  Was Grabiner at Berkeley at the time (or had
he moved to Michigan by then)?

The Tatians stuffed the ballot box.

And Huckabay didn't even finish in the top-5.  He's got an East Coast
bias *and* an anti-Dave bias working against him.

What a great Pease reference there.  I miss him (especially in
asb.sd-p).
