4x4 NL only draft league, 6th place, 10 pts outta 3rd.

I have 32.5 pts pitching (#1 in ERA and WHIP, #4 in saves, #5.5 in wins
- but only 2 wins below #1)

I have 11 pts hitting, which considering my roster just has to get
better.  I hope.

I was offered Casey and Rigdon for Morris and Matt Williams or Burrell.

My roster follows (we have no DL - you gotta keep an injured guy):

Bagwell, Jeff
McGwire, Mark
Alfonzo, Edgardo
Shumpert, Terry
Castillo, Luis
Lugo, Julio
Williams, Matt D.
Donnels, Chris
Hundley, Todd
Barrett, Michael
Benard, Marvin
Payton, Jay
White, Rondell
Berkman, Lance
Burrell, Pat

Smoltz, John
Tollberg, Brian
Schilling, Curt
Morris, Matt
Prokopec, Luke
Gagne, Eric
Shaw, Jeff
Prinz, Bret
Padilla, Vicente
Herges, Matt

After our draft, I had real high hopes for the offense, but I'm last in
RBI, second from last in average, third from last in HR, and in the
middle in SB.  And that's with a trade for Benard after which he's hit 3
HR and is batting .350.  Kind of a bummer.

Still, I don't think I'll make the deal.  I think that the difference
between a Morris or Schilling and Rigdon is worth more than the
difference between Casey and a decent slugger.

Note that I just got Smoltz pitching after holding onto him since draft
day - I figure he'll get me some wins and the rest of the pitching can
swallow his occasional and inevitable poor starts.  And McGwire's back
in three weeks, which can't hurt.

Any comments pro or con?

Your standing and hitting/pitching split is analagous to my own 5x5 NL team,
which has endured some criminal struggles on offense.  I have Bags too, and
any time he's ready to start playing like a high-dollar guy, I'm ready.  ;)
(He did go deep tonight.)

I read your analysis and pretty much agree that you shouldn't do this one,
but it's solely because of the condition that losing Morris will leave your
pitching staff in, particularly if Smoltz struggles for a while.  I actually
would get rid of Burrell at this point (depending on your keeper rules) if I
had him and could get value, but I don't think Casey is quite the offensive
catalyst you're looking for.

If you want to put Morris, who's been one of the top 5 NL pitchers this
season, on the table, I'd hope you could get someone who would really
transform your offense, like Gonzalez, Sheffield, Edmonds.  Casey's one of
the nicest guys in baseball, but probably not the answer here.  Rigdon in
that park scares me, too.

Good call, hold off.
