Division I girls champions, and they very well may reclaim their
mythical national championship. Narbonne is rated No. 1 in the country
by USA Today.
Berkeley was in position to win, but a push-off call when the
Yellowjackets were attempting to inbound the ball and two offensive
rebounds off missed free throws in the final 18.7 seconds allowed the
Gauchos to stick Berkeley with its third title loss in four years.
University of Tennessee-bound guard Loree Moore and Wilnett Crockett
closed it out with three free throws for Narbonne.
"Absolutely this is the toughest loss we've had," said Berkeley coach
Gene Nakamura, who is 2-3 in state-title games. "Those offensive
rebounds, that's their height and weight and depth."
Arizona recruit Robin Roberson had 26 for Berkeley, including her club's
final points on a pretty baseline move for a 45-45 tie with 1:20 to play.
