Does it bother AMERICA that a team based in Canada has dominated
   the sport of
baseball for the last couple of years?

Yeah, those damn Canadians have dominated baseball.  What's that?
They weren't Canadians?  There was Rob Butler, I think
he's Canadian...

   I think it's very funny.

I don't give a shit.

baseball for the last couple of years?

I think it's very funny.

Hopefully, the Jays or the Expos will win it all this season and Canada and the
rest of the planet can laugh at you again.

Isn't Canada part of the US?  What's the big deal?

Geez...here we go again.

Y'know, I'm a Jays fan and all, but this US vs. THEM attitude is pretty
lame.  I mean it was bad enough when the Jays won in '92 and '93...the
Canada vs. US ***was pretty thick then.  We haven't even seen one game
played this year!  I shouldn't even perpetuate this thread by responding,
but it is just silly that boneheads like this are coming out before the
season's even started!

Later,
Al

Yes.  Havn't you Brits heard?

It bothered us so much that we annexed Canada as the 51st state, just so baseball
would be "America's Game" once again.

Sheesh.

I couldn't care less if the World Series winner was the Outer Mongolian Khans,
as long as they won through fair competition.  Who cares where the winner is from?
(Besides San Diego, of course...)

Does it bother you that the Canadian teams consist almost entirely of
non-Canadian players and coaches? So who cares where they play?
Does it bother you that the UK doesn't even have a team?

Tell you what - come back when the UK has anything resembling a
professional sport.

After 88 years, we felt charitable for once.

Refresh my memory. What happened in every preceding year
(excepting 1904) since 1903?

I suspect you mean a team of Americans playing in a Canadian locale for the
entertainment of all North Americans, no?
I think it bothers Americans alot less than an American team made up of
Canadians winning the Stanley Cup, as we frequently see. I know it bothers
Americans alot less than the Americanization of the CFL.

Are you this desperate for things to laugh at? The potential dissolution of
your nation bugging you so much that you have to rely on sporting event
jingoism? Geez, first the Northern Blight, and now this.

You know, only an idiot Brit, whose best soccer players play for the
Republic of Ireland, could say something so stupid.

Most Canadians are smart enough not to care, and BTW, the New York
Rangers won the Stanley Cup last year.  That's a trophy they give out
for winning in hockey, which is the Canadian national sport.  New York
is in the United States.

A word of advice, Allan, if I may.  Get the Queen off your money before
it's too late.  After browsing other newsgroups, I've come to the
conclusion that the U.K. is filled with boneheads like this.  Canada,
like the U.S., is filled with people who wanted to *get away* from the
boneheads.

Best of luck to your Jays.

Why would an englishman start a discution about a subjet he has no knowledge
about?  If you are thinking that the relation between the United States and
Canada is similar with the United Kingdom and France or Ireland; you are
wrong.

Your country is separed from all other European countries by water
with the exception of Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and we
all know what is going on in that part of the world.  As for us, we share
the longest unprotected border in the world.  As always we have a few
differences (Health Care, Gun Laws, Taxes, etc...), but we are the same.
Like John F. Kennedy once said (Bill Clinton just repeated it recently),
"Canada and the United States are the best of friends, whether we like it
or not."

So I think it is in bad taste to post an article that insults the
citizens of another country.  What would you do if someone posted an article
that insulted your country?  You would be doing the same thing that I and
several readers are doing, posting replies.

I hope this subjet will not drag out for two months like in rec.sport.hockey.

Hi y'all!  I don't mean to spam up the newsgroup, BUT:

Not unless you're a Braves or Phillies fan.  In which case we enjoyed
watching the Jays get clubbed last year.  Montreal was a large threat,
and I'd have enjoyed watching the Braves catch up to them for a Division
title race.  This year, though, The 'Spos (or Spaz? :)  will be denied
the division title. (No Hill, Walker, Grissom, Wetteland?)

I don't think many folks over here care, except TV/news execs, who tried
to make a big story about it, but couldn't.
The big concern was the showing of Canadian colors upside-down at one of
the World Series games (Didn't that officer get reprimanded or
court-martialed or something?), which was of legitimate concern and
embarrassment.

Umm......no, on both counts.  i think you need to stop spiking your tea,
you're having delusions.

Cheers!
