Archive for R.S.BB

As part of a little idea I had regarding the FAQ, I asked that a site
set up a directory up to provide a place for stats and information.  Lo and
behold, on the 23rd, a directory was set up!  The good news is that if anyone
has a desire to see the final 1991 stats, for example, or the weekly 1992
numbers, or DA, or anything else, we've got a place for it.  The bad news is,
nobody has placed anything on the site.  Yet.  It would be wonderful if those
people who post regular updates in certain categories, like the "official"
MLB Averages, OPI for previous years, and whatever end-of-the-year posts are
posted on R.S.BB (I plead ignorance, since this year will be my first
net.pennant.race, and I haven't been treated to whatever wrapups get posted).

Also, if a FAQ is too long to be posted in the FAQList, I will try to
take responsibility for putting it in an archive for all to see/retrieve.

At any rate, should anyone take to putting their lists/info in an archive, the
site is

        wuarchive.wustl.edu (128.252.135.4)

in the directory

        /doc/misc/sports/mlb

As I write this, nothing is in the archive, but I'll keep checking (and if I
have something too big for the FAQ and can figure out how to upload, I'll add
to) the archive to keep y'all informed.  Comments?

But how to upload files to the directory? The directory is not writable to
the user out of the group. Can I upload my files to there if I use anonymous
ftp? I upload the stats posted by Donald Hearth to the dirctory /pub in
wuarchive every week. I hope I could upload to stats to the directory
/doc/misc/sports/mlb in the future.

As I said, if I can figure out how to upload.  My best guess would be to upload
a file to the /pub directory, with a .readme file attached instructing the
wuarchive folks to put it in the correct directory ASAP.  But then, I've never
uploaded a file in my life (the reason I mentioned this site is that I figured
I was the first t ofind it, not because I wanted to moderate it), so I'm going
to have to e-mail the system operator at wuarchive to find out.  For now, I
guess, uploding to /pub is all that's allowed.  Hopefully, that will change, or
TPTB at wuarchive will be fairly prompt at putting the files in the proper area.
