Blue Jays, not Blow Jays

Post by Michael L. Le Houlli » Mon, 27 Sep 1993 05:07:59

What is this insistence of certain people (you know who you are)
constantly calling the Blue Jays, Blow Jays.  I realise that beginning
in 1985, they've done things to deserve that label.  However, it
doesn't apply any longer.  The Blue Jays are about to win their thrid
consecutve AL East title, they won the world series for the first time
last year and instead of folding in a tight race this year, they
turned it on and blew away the Yankees and the Orioles down the stretch.

GO BLUE JAYS!  Nice try EXPOS, thanks for the e***ment, get them
next year.

As a matter of fact yes I was!  That's why I have never forgiven the
Smodgers for beating my beloved Yanks in '81.  Or did you even know that?       That was why I thought at the time Valenzuela was the personification of evil.  Why I was apprehensive about Sax signing with the Yanks.  But you're right; old videos are alot of fun!
So what's your point?  Some people say that the Yankee fans would fold
up just like the team.  Homey don't think so!!!!!  They'll be back next year,   capture the ALEast pennant, and go all the way!

You know, Palpukine, your act is really wearing thin. However,I can
understand why you call them the Blow Jays, the way they blow away you
Yankees every year. The Blue Jays blew away the AL East again this year,
played with your Yankees and the O's until it they got tired of that and
then left them in their dust. When it counted your Yankees folded like a
cheap suit...I for one am looking forward to next year when they'll do it again.

Hey Ralphie!!!!!

Sure they blew the Yanks in the dust.  If they're God's gift to man     (more like the devil's work) then how come it took this long to clinch?  If     they're so tall and mighty then how come they had a horrible losing streak just before the all-star break and can't even break 100 games?  Sure the Yanks       suffered before the break too but then I can't gloat about having a well-touted
lineup suddenly folding, now can I?  Just face it; the Blow Jays lineup will    fall apart!  It's way too expensive to keep, Olerpuke had a lucky break, Henderson will be gone and Molitor had his day in the sun - he's too old to keep this  up.  Sure the Blow Jays will repeat - NOT!!!!!  Like I said, face the facts and enjoy it while you can because it certainly won't happen again this century!
        Phils/Braves/Giants - bring'em up!  CRUSH THE JAYS!!!!!
Palpukine?!?!?!  C'mon, you could do better than that lame-o!!!!!

Sure, Blue Jays fans will savor this, but as for it never happening again,
I'd say that since this team has abou half a dozen hall of famers
or so, it will probably happen many more times.
Let's go BLUE Jays!

Hey, no problem. Just pardon me while I sound like someone's mom for a
moment and point out that this says a lot more about you than about the
Jays. I'm a Red Sox fan, and it's come to be almost as painful to see
the Jays ahead of the Sox as the Yankees ahead of the Sox. Somehow,
though, I don't feel compelled to call them the Yank-mes or the Blow
Jays. Sigh. The period between the start of the semester and the end of
the Series is always so stressful on this group.

Hmm.  They've now clinched a tie, I believe, and are the first to do so
of the 4 pennant races.  Interesting definition of "long to clinch"

On the other hand, I have no current objection to using "Twinkees" to refer
to my beloved Minnesota team.  Here are some nonexistent baseball awards
and who I'd nominate for them:

Least Valuable Superstar:  Kirby Puckett
Rookie Flop of the Year (AL):  David McCarty (I think Kevin Young gets it
                               in the National League)
Cy Young (heck, doesn't he lead in career losses):  Scott Erickson
Anti-Comeback Player of Year:  Dave Winfield

Sigh.

Sorry, you lose here.  Andre Dawson is making nearly as much, and
hasn't produced *half* the runs that Puckett has.  I'd trade them
in the blink of an eye.

How about Greg Blosser?  Okay, so he isn't in the majors yet.  But he
would have been if he had hit a little in AAA.

Joe Hesketh?  The man without a mission?

Roger Clemens.  Cy Young candidate to average pitcher in one year.
