Boxing lore is filled with "what ifs," like, what if Billy Conn had boxed Joe Louis to the end of the first title bout. He was ahead on points when he declared he was going to knock Louis out. What if?

How might boxing history be different if Cassius Clay had taken up
wrestling like his hero Gorgeous George instead of boxing?

Steve,

I don't have a quick response to your question, but a lot of funny stuff does cross my mind. Cassius Clay with blond curls and perfume . . ..

Now that does provoke a humorous image!  The question was more of a
rhetorical/satirical one in reply to the original subject.  But I'm
glad you responded.  :)

Ali said he was ready to quit. All Joe had to do was stand up and slap his gloves, which is why he never forgave his corner for stopping it.

So, there would not have been a 15th round and it's possible Ali would not have taken as many shots to the head in the years following, would have fought fewer number of bouts. Maybe he'd be ok.
