Personal vote goes to the street fight between Eli D and Jack C at the Ritz Barbecue in 1956, witnessed by hundreds of locals. These two tough guys slammed each other into parked cars and gave it everything. Finally Jack C prevailed.

Not even sure that it was the best of the Ali-Fraizer fights... My own
choice would be the third.

Greatest sporting event ever though? Tough call... Game 6 of the Red
Sox and Reds is up there. As is the USA Hockey team against the
Russians in the '80 Olympics. The 1999 Women's World Cup final.

So many to single out just one.

Your point is well stated.

Many yeas ago, our elder son, who at the age of 12, was selected to play on an all-star basketball team for an athletic league for kids in our community. He was a fair good young athlete. And he truly enjoyed playing the sports.

After one hard fought game in a tournament, a final shot
won a crucial game. On the way home, our son was so proud for his team. He said, Dad, that was the greatest game."

It's all relative.

Tennis is my joint favorite sport along with Boxing so I'd have to
put in my vote of GrandSlam finals featuring Federer and Nadal being
some of the greatest individual sports events yet seen.

Though I don't follow team sports much I can see how they would really
need their own category in terms of great events.

Federer and Nadal was an excellent match but didn't come close to
matching Borg vs Connors.

Or McEnroe vs. Connors in the US Open semi final 1980.

Yes, this is a completely subjective issue, so subjective or even
"personal" answers are probably just as good, or even better.

As a boxing fan, and for my personal life, Marquez-Pacquiao 1 meant
the most, although I was most nervous and happy about the fourth
fight. I was happy for Marquez, and even for me, because had he lost,
all the work he put into it - I mean, I try to think like that in my
daily life, that I can do anything, if I'm persistent and systematic
in my efforts, so had he lost, that would've been a blow to my
morale. Also, I was *very* happy when Pac-Man got up from the KO
because for a split second, it stroke me perhaps he wouldn't.

As a Swede, although I don't really care for other sports, the two
Olympic hockey gold medals (Canada 1994, and the Finns in '98) -
especially against those teams, that made me happy.

I also played a street hockey game myself (with rollerblades) and
scored a couple of skilled goals. Everyone came up to me after the
game (first and only time that happened). Funny thing is, I didn't
care one bit about the game as I was devastated over a girl. I don't
know, maybe that was even the reason that for once, everything came
together as a puzzle?

Yep.  They had some great battles in their careers.
