Talisman tip review

Post by Paul J. Mo » Wed, 10 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I installed the medium Talisman on my 314 shaft and it went on easily,
trimmed, burnished and reshaped to dime radii without a hitch.  I used
Loctite 401 instant adhesive and was shooting with it within 45 minutes
of install.  The medium is too soft for my liking.  It mushroomed in
about 1 1/2 hours breaking and playing 9 ball.  It may not mushroom as
quickly the next time as most tips will mushroom soon after install and
then take a set.    I prefer to break with the 314 shaft and need a tip
that can take repeated break shots.  The Talisman held chalk perfectly
and I managed to miscue only once using extreme english.  I actually
shot 3 consecutive shots without rechalking and could not miscue, these
were 1 1/2 tips of english.  I will give it another 10 hours of
evaluation and then put the hard tip on.  BTW, it reduced cueball squirt
vs. my worn out LePro.  Comments welcome..........Paul

By how much?  What were the squirt pivot points using the two tips?

I noticed mushrooming initially only.  After a couple of re-shapings and
burnishings it pretty much stopped.

Bob,

-Did you also install the medium?
-Do you break with that same cue?
-What is your opinion of the tip?

I put the medium on my shooting cue, the *** by break cue, (also answers
the second question).  So far, I like the tips a lot.  I think they compare
favorably to Hercules or YTT, but more economical.  While I've never
actually tried a Mori, I doubt the cost difference would be worth it.  I
placed an order for additional Talisman tips a couple of weeks ago, but
haven't received them yet.  So far the biggest drawback seems to be delivery
time.
