does anyone know the "secret" to getting the 8-ball off the break?
-0------------------------------------------------

most players feel hitting the second ball(the ball behind the head ball
in the rack) imparts more roll on the 8 ball..I've been going with a
second ball break lately & I believe that I do make the 8 more
frequently than with a "head ball " break. Unfortunately all the guys I
play with play BCA rules,  so it isn't a win.

Yes we do, but if we told you, we'd have to kill you.

Some players like to place the cue ball approx. 3" behind the headstring
and approx 3" off of the rail.  Shoot straight low english, using nothing
but your arms with no "body english" (this keeps the stroke more accurate).
Shoot to the second ball in the rack.

I prefer another method.  Place the cue ball at the headstring,
approximately three inches off of the rail.  Use inside/middle english
with the same stroke as mentioned above.  Hit to the second ball in the rack.

Fool around and see what works for you.  Of course, if you play BCA rules,
this is a moot point.  Iplay mostly APA rules and similar tournament
rules, so the 8 on the break wins for you.

I use the same break and usually make 2 to 3 balls on the break.

Kirby,

Every time I view a post of yours, I get a vcard.vcf ( vcard1.vcf or
vcard2.vcf) file saved on my computer.  I sure wish you would arrange
for your posts to not do that so I don't have to put your name in the
"twit filter".
