How does a predator 314 do when its shaved to 12mm?

Post by schwan » Sun, 18 Jan 2004 06:03:39

Hi all...
I used to use a 12mm shaft on My Meucci, then I got a 314 shaft. Has
anyone had their 314 (predator) shaved down? If so, how does it perform?
I know it'll void my warranty, thats ok.

Thanks

I've taken mine down a bit--to about 12.4 or 12.5 mm, and it hits about
the same as before.

Because the shaft is hollowed out for the first several inches, you will
at some point impact the integrity of the shaft.  I don't know where
that point is, but I'd be a little afraid to go to 12 mm.  Others may
know.

I didn't check for sure, but I think on Predator's web site, they state you
can go down to 12.25 mm without voiding the warranty.

How does a predator 314 do when its shaved to 12mm?

Sorry I'm a little late in posting, but I took all of my P-shafts (about 1/2
dozen) down to 12.00mm and have not had a single problem.  Shane Sinnott
(formerly with Predator) clued me in that it was possible to go "safely" to
11.90mm without risking damage (no break shots please!), so I chose 12.00mm.
The warranty, which was of no particular interest to me, is voided below
12.25mm.

I love the feel and performance of the P's at this12.00mm size and taper.  I
had gotten used to playing with even smaller diameter tips (e.g. 11.25mm)
and actually prefer them to the more typical 12.75-13.00mm sizes (which now
seem like baseball bats to me).

Did you change the taper?  Does the pro taper area now have a slight
taper, or is it cylindrical at the smaller diameter?
